Ubuntu 4.04 was a pre-release, before the 1st one 4.10 (Warty Warthog) at October 2004.
Today is Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is the latest release. I have rounds with Ubuntu, but I prefer Linux Mint nowadays with Cinnamon desktop environment, I like the start-menu-like launcher with the bottom panel, and light/dark theme changer applet too. Ubuntu is Debian based. Linux Mint is Ubuntu based.
Gnome - Cinnamon is more traditional and less minimal
KDE - Never used KDE Plasma environment
XFCE - Cinnamon is more modern visuals, slightly heavier
Linux Mint Cinnamon (default)
Linux Mint Mate
Linux Mint XFCE
LMDE stands for “Linux Mint Debian Edition”
Ubuntu Cinnamon been is okay, but Linux Mint is the official playground for Cinnamon users much.
About current having gaming issues, check protonDB.
As far as I can see, Windows related anticheat solutions are irreplaceable: Battle.net(Call of Duty series), Ubisoft, EA (Battlefield series)… dual boot & cloud gaming can be a solution.
To be continued.
